Sudanese Repatriation
“Home is home!” ~Jackson Olega, President EFCS
After 22 years, the civil war in southern Sudan has ended, paving the way for a mass movement of up to 100,000 refugees returning home after more than a decade in refugee camps in Uganda, Kenya and Ethiopia. Homecoming for the Sudanese is returning with nothing, to nothing.
EFCA TouchGlobal launched "Resurrected Hope," the Sudanese repatriation project, to help the Evangelical Free Church of Sudan (EFCS) care for refugees in the name of Jesus as they return to their villages. Over $350,000 has been contributed by EFCA churches for this project, but huge needs remain. Earlier this year, we were able to help the EFCS with funds to provide supplies to returning refugees. However, these supplies were distributed to the first wave of those returning home.
Rains have finally stopped in southern Sudan. Usually, the problem is lack of rain-but there has been too much rain recently, causing great concern that crops will not provide sufficient food for those returning.
With the anticipated flood of refugees in the next few months, the EFCS needs help to provide food, clothing, blankets, cooking utensils, seed, garden tools and more for returning refugees. Now is a crucial time to again help our Sudanese brothers and sisters!
